Babysitting Essentials

The Babysitting Essentials Program is a comprehensive youth caregiver training course designed to prepare participants to safely, confidently, and responsibly care for infants and children of varying ages. Babysitting Essentials Program combines Safe Sitter concepts, CPR/AED, and Pediatric First Aid training to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to respond appropriately in both everyday childcare situations and emergencies.

Safe Sitter

Participants will learn how to:

⭐ Demonstrate safe supervision practices

⭐ Recognize common household hazards & injury risks

⭐ Understand basic child development & age-appropriate care

⭐ Manage common childhood behaviors & challenging situations

⭐ Respond appropriately during emergencies

⭐ Communicate professionally with parents & families

⭐ Understand babysitter responsibilities, expectations & boundaries

⭐ Identify situations requiring adult assistance or emergency services

⭐ Create safe, engaging, and child-friendly environments

⭐ Practice professionalism, confidence, and leadership as a babysitter

⭐ Understand basic digital safety & social media awareness

⭐ Recognize unsafe situations and when to seek help

⭐ Support children with varying emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs

⭐ Build confidence in childcare, safety, and emergency preparedness

First Aid

Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to common pediatric emergencies, including:

✅ Scene safety & when to call 911

✅ Choking emergencies

✅ Bleeding control & bandaging

✅ Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)

✅ Epinephrine auto-injector awareness

✅ Breathing emergencies & respiratory distress

✅ Shock recognition & first aid response

✅ Burn care

✅ Head injuries, seizures & unconscious child emergencies

✅ Poisoning, heat illness & cold-related emergencies

This course is designed to build confidence in recognizing emergencies and providing immediate first aid care until advanced medical help arrives.

Pediatric CPR / AED

Participants will learn how to:

🔹 Recognize pediatric cardiac and breathing emergencies

🔹 Identify when CPR is needed for infants and children

🔹 Demonstrate scene safety and emergency response activation

🔹 Recognize unresponsiveness and abnormal breathing

🔹 Perform high-quality infant CPR

🔹 Perform high-quality child CPR

🔹 Demonstrate proper chest compression techniques

🔹 Demonstrate effective rescue breathing techniques

🔹 Recognize and respond to choking emergencies in infants and children

🔹 Demonstrate infant choking relief skills

🔹 Demonstrate child choking relief skills

🔹 Properly use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on children

🔹 Understand the importance of early CPR and defibrillation

🔹 Work effectively as part of a rescue team

🔹 Demonstrate confidence during pediatric emergencies

🔹 Provide care until advanced medical help arrives
